Cufon is an extremely handy jQuery plugin that renders text via VML. This is similar to sIFR (Scalable Inman Flash Replacement) text. We are using the Vegur font, created by Japanese font designer Arro (site). Get started with the Cufon plugin at: http://github.com/sorccu/cufon/wiki/usage
The excellent Flash media on the splash page is taken from the open source, Piecemaker gallery created by Björn from Modularweb. It takes advantage of CS4's new 3D rendering engine admirably.
